Judy Wise and I will be team-teaching a 5 day workshop May 2nd - 8th, 2008, in Puerto Vallarta Mexico at the Hacienda Mosaico. We had a blast collaborating to create this class, and look forward to sharing all we know with our students.
WORKING DEEP: DEPTH & FAUX FINISHES IN LAYERED COLLAGE
Come Join Katie Kendrick and Judy Wise at the beautiful Hacienda Mosaico and learn from these experienced teachers all the secrets and recipes they use in their mixed media creations. We will learn how to organize collage and design elements so that they tell the story in our hearts as we learn recipes and techniques to create a rich surface that resembles encaustic, fresco and layers of color and resin. These are techniques that they have never taught before. Each attendee will create luminous collages with the one on one help of both Judy and Katie to ensure individual success. In the evenings we will be free to party together or separately and to discuss art theory, art history or our dreams for our lives as the mood suggests. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn how to trust your intuition and fly.
The cost is $1400.00 for 5 full days with Judy and Katie in a structured classroom setting and 6 nights lodging based on double occupancy. This price also includes wonderful breakfasts and lunches, and unlimited studio access. All participants will receive a packet of oddities to add to their supplies list. A welcoming reception presented by our hostess, Sam, will greet us with traditional and fresh Mexican fare...Space is limited at the hacienda so please reserve early.
To register, call Sam at Hacienda Mosaico at: 1-866-263-9717 or email: info@haciendamosaico.com

While Judy was here visiting for our workshop planning and brainstorming session, she totally surprised me with the most amazing, AMAZING gift; one of her original mixed media paintings, one that I have loved from the first moment I saw it several months ago, and one I have a print of hanging on my studio wall now - a previous gift from dear Judy. I have to keep pinching myself -yes, it is true - I now possess the ORIGINAL - I am overjoyed!! She painted this piece on a children's puzzle, so it has a wonderful, lumpy texture, built-in to the background. The surface is painted encaustic so the whole piece has luminosity and depth. And that delightful handmade turquoise wooden frame. Everything about this piece is sheer delight, and I feel SO grateful and honored to be the the proud recipient of an original JUDY WISE. Thank you my dear friend, for this amazing gift, and for all the gifts of spirit you so generously share with us all; you are a treasure.
She looks like you! Complete with head swaddled in scarf. I love it too. xxx cheryl

Oh, does this ever sound like a dream! But gosh, it's a few weeks before my kids get out of school and since they are really young, it would be an act of God to get away and have my husband actually crawl out of bed and take them to school by 7:30 every morning, not to mention caring for them every afternoon for a week! Yep, I'm dreaming.... booohoooooo
